This letter appeared in the Brampton Guardian on Saturday, March 12, 2005, regarding one of Varsity's instructors.
With all the negative news about hockey I would like to give a positive story.
This year, I decided to help coach my son's hockey team. Halfway in the year, the head coach resigned and I took over. We had not yet won a game. The kids were feeling sad about the coach resigning and about losing games.
When the captain of the Brampton Capitals and his mother heard of this, they decided to come out to our game. Two of their players came into our dressing room and talked to the kids. During that game, they also came behind the bench.
This was a very positive gesture by these two gentlemen and their parents. This has helped changed our hockey team's outlook and I would like to thank them personally, as do the parents and kids.
For the rest of the year, they were active with our team, supplying us with Brampton Capital tickets and helping us with fundraising for our team. This is what hockey is about, not the negative press this sport receives.
These gentlemen and their parents deserve recognition for their outstanding contribution to hockey and society.
Thank you Brendan McLaughlin and his mother.
