Varsity Hockey is proud to announce this power duo as September’s joint Players of the Month. Jake Perehiniak and Jacob Harris, both 10 years old, have been joined at the hockey pants for the past four years. After a season with the 95 Georgetown Raiders AA team, the pair are eager to begin a new year with the AAA Halton Hurricanes.
In recent years with Varsity, both have trained in shooting and stick handling camps, semi-private camps, and week-long winter and summer camps. Jacob Harris’ dad Scott describes, “we started really liking the personal attention they received at Varsity. We keep coming here because we can tell Jacob is improving.”
Jacob’s love of hockey is also evident in everything he does. In the off-season he plays lacrosse, and says his future goal is to play pro hockey for the Leafs. When asked to describe his best moment in hockey, Jacob comes alive to tell how he shut down Barrie with one second left by scoring the winning goal in the final game in a tournament to make the score 2-1.
Jake, a defenseman, has some advice for those trying out for the next level. “Work hard in tryouts, and just don’t give up!” He enjoys playing with Jacob because he’s a good player and they work well together. They attend the same school so it’s easy to maintain a good friendship on and off the ice. Jake’s goal in hockey and in life are parallel – to be a pro hockey player. He cites his favourite team as the Tampa Bay Lightning and his favourite hockey player as the great Steve Yzerman. His best moment in hockey was winning the Bell Capital Cup. At the rate these two players are going, it doesn’t look like that is the last cup they will get to hoist.
