| Matt Menecola - Student Spotlight
|
Matt Menecola is following in his older brother’s footsteps. Anthony Menecola attends private sessions at Varsity and is currently trying out for St. Mike's varsity team, and after just three years at the sport, nine-year-old Matt has elevated from Applewood A team to the Mississauga North Stars AA team.
For his first year on a AA team, Matt’s goals are impressive; becoming the leading scorer and most impressive player overall will satisfy this hard worker. Matt enjoys hockey because it’s a good sport with lots of different movements to practice. “He likes to play aggressively,” says his mom. “He used to be timid and hesitant, but since training with Varsity he has become faster, more focused and definitely more aggressive.”
Matt’s achievements on the ice mirror his classroom efforts as well. He pays strict attention in school, always following the teacher’s directions. This sentiment is echoed by Varsity director Lucky De Grazia: “Matt is a great student to teach on the ice. He works extremely hard at all drills, he listens, he pays attention… it’s clear he enjoys working hard and developing his skills.”
Although Matt’s not sure what he wants to be when he grows up, he’s starting off on the right path by working hard at everything he does. Congratulations to Matt on becoming Varsity’s July Player of the Month! |
