Eugenio Lauria - Student Spotlight

A late start in hockey doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be behind in the pack. Take Eugenio Lauria for example. After three years in the game, he’s now a AAA player.

Eugenio Lauria, age eight and a student at Varsity, began playing hockey three years ago. Like his dad, he is an avid soccer player, so when his soccer teammates decided to pick up hockey as their winter sport, Eugenio decided to join as well. He began as any other player learning the game, and recently made Chris French’s minor atom Brampton Battalion AAA team for the 2005-06 season.

Eugenio’s parents are thrilled with his progress and really enjoy being a part of the Brampton Youth Hockey community. “The parents are really nice. Even when you move up a level, there are still great people to get to know,” says dad Mike.

Eugenio says he plays hockey because it’s fun - simply stated from a kid who just wants to play a game. At such a young age, he already has pretty good taste in hockey greats; he cites Wayne Gretzky as his favourite player and Team Canada as his favourite team. His future also shines as brightly as his present with aspirations of becoming a pro hockey player for the NHL.

Look for this young star in Varsity’s Summer Pond Hockey Program. Congratulations to Eugenio for being Varsity’s Player of the Month for May!
